About

Mission

By enabling rapid and adaptable deployment across Europe’s heterogeneous building stock, SPHEERE provides a replicable pathway aligned with EU climate neutrality targets and the strategic ambitions of the Built4People Partnership and the New European Bauhaus.

Objective

SPHEERE delivers systemic innovation for sustainable building renovation, combining a digitally driven workflow with a prefabricated, multi-functional retrofit package covering design, manufacturing, transport, installation, operation and end-of-life.
By integrating technological, methodological and organisational advances within a circular framework, the project industrialises renovation processes while reducing energy demand, lifecycle emissions, costs and on-site disruption.
While focusing on non-listed buildings (mid-rise masonry buildings from the second half of the 20th century, representing 18% of the EU building stock), the project is strategically conceived for high replicability to diverse building typologies, uses, and climatic contexts, ensuring maximum deployment potential across Europe.

Impact

According to a quite conservative estimation, 1% of the project’s addressable building stock – corresponding to approximately 3,770,000 m2 per year – will adopt SPHEERE.

In terms of number of buildings, SPHEERE is expected to be adopted each year by about 34,000 apartments and 1,800 tertiary buildings
